Living Past the WANTS and Entering God's Desires
When we are new in Christ we often put demands on our service to God. We will say things like “God I will serve you but I need to have the woman or man of my dreams first, or I need live in a certain city, with a certain income, in a certain job, in a certain house, with a certain number of children. When we place demands like this on God we are actually living from a place of poverty. We don’t have an understanding of who we are in Christ. When we place want in any part of our relationship with God we will always come up lacking. God is not about satisfying our wants. He doesn’t feel compelled to help you to win the lottery or drive the nicest car. What God wants is your heart and the right to be the driver of your life. He doesn’t want a set of conditions placed before him. He doesn’t want you to negotiate with him. He will give freely to you all the desires of your heart but this doesn’t come when you demand it but when you freely accept the journey that he has ordained for your life. You cannot even begin to imagine that journey, so when you limit him through your desire and want you actually stop the world from becoming larger than what it has ever been in your life before. Some people settle with little when God would have given them much more. A big house, a large company, with a juicy big bank account that allows you to travel somewhere warm each year can be as much poverty as having nothing at all. I only began to have when I gave everything else up. I only started to be wealthy when I gave up my right to own anything. Mark 10:29-30 says, And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s, But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. I am always amazed at how much God wants to give us the desires of our heart. You have to understand something about my life. I gave up the right to own anything a long time ago, but now I have more than I ever could have imagined having. Two weeks ago I was sipping coffees next to the Mediterranean sea with people to marvellous to put into words, faces I only ever saw in magazines. Last week I was driving through the hills of Virginia and Pennsylvania with my wife and five children seeing miracles break out everywhere we went swimming in pools with my children every day. This week I will be in the Rocky Mountains driving a jeep to see the alpine meadows and glacier lakes. In all of these places I saw God move in glory touching lives deeply and many came to Christ. There were people healed, delivered and set free. I enjoyed the journey and saw God move in mighty ways at the same time. When we say “yes” to God the journey is exciting. We begin to enjoy the greater things when we die to the lesser. When we die to the right to know or have control we gain the greatest freedom imaginable. We truly become free in Christ as we allow him to use us for his glory. I wouldn’t want to live any other way. This life is truly wonderful I pray that God opens your heart to the journey and that you begin to rise above the wants of your life and enter the place of God granting your deepest desires. He knows you better than yourself. He will do great things with you only believe.
